“My dear Grandma instilled in both myself and my younger brother that we were NEVER to look inside a woman’s handbag!”
With grand ‘ceremony’ befitting a ritualisation she would reveal treasured items at important moments; lace hankies for running noses; wetherall toffess for tears and an ebony comb for on the spot grooming before Church.
Many years on and I make a living from looking inside the handbags of busy women and men! My poor Grandma would be horrified as my clients snap photos of their contents and share them worldwide on Instagram and Facebook.
The more I delve into the depths of handbags all over the world, the more I realise the wisdom of my Grandma’s belief – for many of us our Handbag or Manbag truely is our last remaining ‘personal space’ in a very public modern world!
Sharing so much of our living and working space our handbag not only provides us with our sought after small personal sanctuary, but also holds vital clues about the person we are – remarking on our past, commenting on our present and offering hints about our future.
No two bags and their contents are the same and no two ladies or gentelemen have the same talents and gifts. It is this individuality that makes HandbagTherapy so enjoyable and rewarding. It is an honour to look inside each bag and to be part of someone’s journey to self awareness, confidence and personal change.
